The Weill Cornell Medicine (WCM) one-year, ACGME-accredited Clinical Addiction Psychiatry Fellowship enables two psychiatrists each academic year to develop clinical addiction psychiatry practice knowledge and skills, present and write scholarly papers and teach junior trainees.
We expect graduates of our program to become leaders in addiction psychiatry. To this end, we offer intensive training in diverse clinical and investigative settings, an extensive curriculum of formal didactics, an administrative/leadership experience, expert faculty supervision, scholarly presentation, paper publication and experience educating psychiatry residents and medical students.

Program Curriculum
The Program’s curriculum will comprise of:
- Mentored patient care: Fellows will learn to apply state-of-the-art, evidence-based addiction treatment under the close supervision of experienced faculty. For example, Fellows will complete mentored acute and rehabilitative inpatient experiences, as well as outpatient work in substance use intensive outpatient programs and opioid-replacement treatment programs.
- Mentored research: Fellows will attend an extensive program of seminars and each conduct a research project to be presented to co-fellows and faculty at the end of the academic year. The goal is to set them up with the needed research skills to impact the field of addiction psychiatry for years to come.
- Mentored education training: The Fellows will also learn how to become teachers and educators. During the fellowship, they will work with and educate other clinicians around the hospital. They will be prepared to become immediate leaders in the field of addiction psychiatry upon graduation.
Unique to WCM’s program will be the focus on the stigma of addiction, youth substance use prevention efforts and treatment, and enhanced exposure to individuals in recovery. Fellows will accomplish this through their clinical and research work, but also through collaborations with individuals and organizations outside of Weill Cornell, such as 12-step groups and treatment centers around the New York City area. Through this curriculum and close mentorship, Weill Cornell’s Addiction Psychiatry Fellows will gain and perfect new skills as they gradually transition into independent clinicians.

Application
A complete application to the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS)* site is required and must include the following items:
- Your application
- Your personal statement
- 3 letters of recommendation, including one from your training director and one from an attending psychiatrist who served as a direct clinical supervisor in the past year
- Your official medical school transcript
- An official copy of your MSPE (Medical School Performance Evaluation/Dean's Letter)
- Your official USMLE score reports (Steps 1, 2, 3 or Equivalent)
